Azure bytes of the alphabet, part 9, Azure IoT

This is part 9 of a blog about some of the components on the Microsoft Azure platform, like app service, blob storage, databases, databricks, Event Hubs, Functions, Gateways, Health, IoT, load balancer, containers, Kubernetes, compute, security and many more. I am using all the letters of alphabet to do this. This is nine of twenty-six.

What is Azure IoT?

Azure IoT is a collection of managed and platform services across edge and cloud that connect, monitor, and control billions of IoT assets. It also includes security and operating systems for devices and equipment, along with data and analytics that help businesses to build, deploy, and manage IoT applications. When discussing Azure IoT, we consider how these services work together across three components:

The physical objects, or things, such as industrial equipment, devices, or sensors, that connect to the cloud persistently or intermittently.

  • Secure your edge devices and hardware Azure Sphere and RTOS, Windows IoT.
  • Simplify connectivity with certified devices IoT Plug and Play and Azure Certified Devices.
  • Push applications and workloads to the edge Azure IoT Edge, Azure Stack, Azure Stack Edge.

Information collected by the things, which is analyzed and turned into actionable knowledge either by people or AI.

  • Connect and manage your device data with flexibility Azure IoT Hub and Azure IoT Central
  • Transform your data for interoperability Azure APIs
  • Create digital models of entire environments Azure Digital Twins

The way people respond to those insights and connect them to their business, as well as the systems and tools they use.

  • Integrate with your business applications Power BI, Dynamics 365, CRM, Field Services
  • Security from edge to cloud Azure Defender for IoT
  • Build connected ecosystems
