What is Azure AD connect
Azure AD Connect is a Microsoft tool designed to help organizations with hybrid IT environments as shown in the picture above . It is given to you for free with your Azure subscription. It provide multiple features, including federation integration and health monitoring.
Companies use Azure AD Connect to automatically synchronize identity data between their on-premises Active Directory environment and Azure AD. That way, users can use the same identity to access both on premises applications and Microsoft 365 cloud services.
Before you deploy Azure active directory to your Azure environment, you have to plan the synchronization of the on premises active directory to Azure AD, there a few steps to this.
1. Active directory preparation
2. UPN suffixes
3. Microsoft 365 readiness checks.
4. Microsoft 365 ID fix tool.
Once you’re on premises active directory plan is completed the Azure AD connect should be straight forward to configure after a short list of questions are answered. like
1. What servers to install on Azure AD Connect
2. Does your company want a fail over solution for the Azure Ad Connect
3. Does your company want all of the on premises active directory synced or just part of it.
4. Do you need more than one active directory synced.
5. Does your company need advanced features like password write-back or device write back or do you need password synchronization.
